SSHS is accepting applications for the 2025-2026 School Year.

Choosing the right school for your children is one of the most important gifts you can bestow on them. We appreciate your interest in joining the St. Stephen of Hungary School (SSHS) community. SSHS is an award winning Catholic School, in the Archdiocese of New York, with a rich heritage of academic excellence.
The goal of our admissions process is to objectively determine each candidate's potential to thrive at SSHS throughout their elementary school education. St. Stephen of Hungary school is a welcoming community and recognizes that each child benefits from a flexible environment where exceptional teachers use assessments and other resources to assist each individual's needs in our academically challenging environment.
For those candidates who are accepted, the family is asked to confirm enrollment within two weeks by submitting the contract and the non-refundable two month tuition deposit.

I. Applications for the 2025 - 2026 are being accepted beginning October 1, 2024.

Applications are submitted with a $225 non-refundable application fee paid online for each applicant. (Required)
II. The Applicant's file is considered complete when the items below are uploaded to the online portal. You may log in & out of your account during the Application process.
1) Birth Certificate (Required)
If citizenship is other than US, please also provide copy of visa & passport.
Please let SSHS know if you are inquiring about a SEVIS application.
2) Baptismal Certificate (If Applicable)
3) Immunization Records (Required)
SSHS does not accept Religious Letters of Exemption for Immunizations.
4) Yearly Physical Exams (Required)
5) Teacher Recommendations - (Required for PreK 3 through Grade 8 applicants)
Please provide a copy to your child's current teacher - see below.
6) Report Cards from previous school(s) - (Required for Grade 1 - 8)
Please submit current plus 2 years (if applicable).
Some schools will require you to submit a Permission to Release Records form - see below.
7) Standardized Test Scores (If Applicable)

Families are encouraged to indicate on the application if the student is expected to transfer with or need a service plan. The SSHS application screening process is in place to determine whether SSHS resources can support your child's learning needs. Our mutual goal is to provide the appropriate educational environment for your child. Offers of acceptance are at the discretion of the SSHS Admissions Committee. SSHS will coordinate services with you and the NYCDOE. However, SSHS cannot guarantee the placement of NYCDOE-approved providers. Please note: we do not place private-pay providers in the school. Upon submission of application, the Director of Admissions initiates the family's contact with the Director of Instructional Support and Services. Thank you.
III. Assessments
Pre K 2 (Little Sprouts), Pre K 3, Pre K 4, Kindergarten and Gr. 1 Applicant Screening
Applicants are invited into an Early Childhood Classroom to communicate with the teacher. Language development and cognitive skills are an integral part of the student's educational endeavors. Applicants will be asked to follow simple directions and answer age-appropriate questions.
Gr. 2 - 8 Applicants
a) The applicant will complete a math and language arts assessment.
b) The applicant will visit the SSHS campus.
IV. Enrollment
Accepted students will be offered a Contract. Families who wish to enroll are asked to submit the Contract within 2 weeks by submitting a 2 month non-refundable tuition deposit. The remaining tuition and fees are billed on August 10th through March 10th.

Your school may ask for this form in order to send the records that SSHS requires during the application process.
Newly accepted, enrolled students should also provide this form to the prior school so FINAL records are sent to SSHS. (This generally occurs during the summer.)

What are the age requirements for admission to Saint Stephen School?
In accordance with the Archdiocesan of New York’s regulations, students will be considered/admitted for the school year only if they are the correct age for that program/grade by December 31st.
Pre K 2 Program - must be 2 years old
Pre K 3 Program - must be 3 years old
Pre K 4 Program - must be 4 years old
Kindergarten - must be 5 years old
First Grade - must be 6 years old
Starting in Pre K 3, all children must be toilet trained upon entering the school. For Pre K 2, a caregiver remains onsite. See Little Sprouts document attached below.
