About Your Teacher

Kelly Strain is the 3rd grade ELA, Social Studies, and 3A Religion Teacher. I love to get my students engaged in their own learning with presentations, historical simulations, and real-world connections. If there's a song that will liven up the lesson, we will use it as a brain/dance break throughout the day. I teach students how to study, how to be responsible for their own work, and how to use strategies that highlight their strengths to succeed. I believe that structure gives you freedom and that learning CAN BE FUN!

I am the creator and teacher of our school's Readers Theater Curriculum. Readers Theater is an enrichment program that fosters our children's creativity, literacy, speech, and presentation skills through practice and performance.

After school, I am the Director and Choreographer for the School Musical as well as a mom to Samantha (7th grade) and Charlotte (4th grade). I received my Bachelor's in Music Theater from Elon University, NC, and my Masters in Childhood Education at Hunter College, NY. I am a NY State Certified Teacher, a Level 2 Certified Catechist, and a Certified Holistic Health Counselor.

My favorite part about being a teacher is when a student finds their voice academically and as an individual. As teachers, we get to witness and be a part of so much growth, and it is a blessing.

Colonel Sean Dynan talks to 4th Grade about being a Veteran.
3rd graders can look forward to Mrs. Strain's "Meet A Veteran" interview series. We will learn about our nation's military and talk to a veteran via zoom. This year we will interview Retired Chief Warrant Officer Bill Dynan and another guest.
