Coach Jon Schoen Award
Coach Jon Schoen was the Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. He reinvigorated and re-established Saint Stephen of Hungary School's interscholastic Catholic Youth Organization basketball team, and served for 5 years, from 2010 to 2015, as its unpaid coach. Sadly, Jon lost his battle with cancer this fall, but our community and our teams are finding ways to honor Jon's legacy.
On November 16, 2017, the Saint Stephen of Hungary School community gather together with Jon's family and colleagues from Morgan Stanley to celebrate a Memorial Mass to honor and remember Jon's life.
Following the Memorial Mass that the school held for Jon, Morgan Stanley enabled their employees to donate to our Foundation in memory of Jon. So far the Foundation has received over 330 gifts from Morgan Stanley employees totaling over $22,000. We thank Morgan Stanley and Jon's family, friends and colleagues for continuing in the giving spirit which Jon embodied throughout his life.
Jon's integrity, moral character and work ethic improved the lives of the children at Saint Stephen of Hungary School in countless ways. Out of respect for the person Jon was, and his unwavering faith in the children of our school, the Saint Stephen of Hungary Foundation has established the Coach Jon Schoen Award, to be awarded to that graduating eighth grader and student athlete who most exemplifies Coach Schoen's generosity of spirit, concern for others, love of fair play, and abiding belief in God's grace and love for us all. A permanent plaque will be displayed in the school and the recipient of the award will be recognized on this.
