Dear Friends,

Families choose Saint Stephen of Hungary School because they don’t want their children to walk to school; they want their children to run. Every morning, I have the pleasure of seeing students in red plaid run down 82nd Street to shake hands and enter the building eager to start their day. They are greeted by the smiling faces of friends and faculty as the classrooms and hallways buzz with laughter and excitement about the learning that lies ahead. Students at Saint Stephen School know they are being listened to and cherished for who they are and who they want to be.

The faculty at Saint Stephen School has created a nurturing environment that appreciates and celebrates the talents and passions of each individual child. Our academically challenging curriculum is based on Franciscan values of educating the whole child: spiritually, academically, socially, and physically. By maintaining small class sizes and instructing through small group methods, our teachers are able to differentiate and meet the needs of every student. Whether learning to read or deriving the quadratic equation, Saint Stephen School students feel supported and develop the confidence to tackle new challenges.

At Saint Stephen School, we strive to cultivate students who are passionate leaders and self-confident lifelong learners. In the words of W.B. Yeats, “Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.” Our integrated core curriculum is enriched with art, music, library and media studies, gym and movement, technology, and French language and culture. Whether playing the violin, designing a web page, or running in a track meet, our students are exposed to a wide range of interests as they develop their passions. Field trips and service learning projects are opportunities to enhance our curriculum and build an awareness of the larger community. After they leave Saint Stephen School, our students are confident that they can follow their passions and make a difference in society.

Families at Saint Stephen School are involved. We feel blessed to work in partnership with parents as we guide their children from their first day of pre-kindergarten to their eighth grade graduation. With a wide range of opportunities, parents find a multitude of ways to engage in their child’s education by offering their own time and talents. At Saint Stephen School, parents find support and recognize that they are valued collaborators. When your child joins Saint Stephen School, our community becomes your community.

We welcome you to run down 82nd Street and see what Saint Stephen School has to offer. I look forward to shaking your hand and getting to know your family.
