Hello and welcome to First Grade!

My name is Michelle Schilling and I would like to introduce myself as one of the first grade teachers at St. Stephen of Hungary School. I am thrilled to be a part of the magnificent staff at St. Stephen and I cannot wait to meet you and your children this year!

I began my journey at St. Stephen of Hungary School six years ago in the Pre-K 4 classroom. I have a bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Childhood Education from SUNY New Paltz and completed my masters in Literacy from Teachers College at Columbia University in May of 2016. I completed my masters in Administration and Supervision from Fordham University in May 2019. My degree in literacy has shaped my passion for teaching reading and writing. I look forward to incorporating my experiences and knowledge into the first grade classroom.

First grade is a very special time for you and your child and I cannot wait to experience it with you! Your child will be growing both socially and academically over the course of the school year. First grade will be filled with reading, writing, mathematics, and much more. I am passionate about the teaching of reading and writing and cannot wait to accompany your child as they become readers and authors!

First grade is also an important time for your child to build friendships and discover their personal interests. We’ll kick off the year by hearing about everyone’s grand adventures over the summer. I for one was able to travel abroad, complete some interesting course work, and spend quality time with family and friends. I look forward to hearing you child’s story and becoming a part of it this year.

I believe that open communication between teachers and parents is essential for student success, so please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have throughout the year. I am eager to embark on the fun-filled journey that first grade will bring!
