Music

Saint Stephen School values the gift of music and fosters an appreciation of music in students of all ages.  Our music program is designed to allow students to explore a variety of musical classes.

Research has shown that music helps to activate children mentally, physically, and emotionally to create learning states which enhance understanding of materials. At Saint Stephen School we believe that music is an integral part of our curriculum. The use of music throughout the school creates a positive atmosphere which helps to motivate children to learn.

Music in the Lower School

Students in the Lower School explore how to use their bodies as instruments and begin to learn about rhythm, beats and tempo. Beginning in grade 2, musical notes are introduced and practiced through the use of the recorder.

Music in the Upper School

Students in the Upper School continue their exploration of music through artist studies, vocal training and note reading during weekly music class.

In addition, beginning in grade 3 all students are given the option to join our Beginners Band and in grade 4 many students progress to the Advanced Band.

All students in grades 4 through 8 are members of the Saint Stephen of Hungary Junior Strings as part of their core curriculum. Advanced students are selected to join the Saint Stephen of Hungary Chamber Ensemble.

The Saint Stephen of Hungary School Show Choir is another way students in grade 5 through 8 are able to showcase their musical talents and develop their love and appreciation of musical genres.
