Seventh Grade

Dear Seventh Graders,

I trust you are all enjoying these carefree days of summer while they last.  If you are someone who prefers hot weather- this has been the summer for it.
By now you should have finished reading The Outsiders and are well into The Young Traveler’s Gift.  Both are light and enjoyable books that you should enjoy.  We will review both books and be tested on them at the end of September.
I have said every year that the seventh grade is considered by high schools to be the most important year. Since applications in Grade 8 are filed in November, schools tend to use the seventh grade marks as the tool they use for acceptance to their school.  In addition to academic grades they also consider: attendance, punctuality, and behavior.  Give this some serious thought as we begin the new school year.
Two areas of great importance that I plan to stress in class this year are organizational skills and using your time wisely.  When high school students return to visit they claim that having these skills has made a great difference in their success.  When purchasing your supplies be certain to follow the list you were given.  If in doubt wait until after the first day and check with me first.  Likewise be very aware of the new uniform requirement which includes the proper shoes.
I will be going on retreat next and will keep you and your families in my prayers.  Enjoy the remainder of your vacation.  Come back on September 8th, ready to start this very important year.

Blessings and best regards,

Mr. James Fox
