Pre-Kindergarten 3B

August 2010

Dear PreK 3 Students and Families,

I hope you’ve been enjoying a wonderful summer with your loved ones. The beginning of the school year is quickly approaching, and I am excited to introduce myself to you and share some information about what is to come in our PreK 3 classroom at St. Stephen of
Hungary School.

My name is Nicole Pouliot, and I will soon be known to your family as “Ms. Nicole.” I have been teaching for 10 years, and bring to the St. Stephen community a wide background in Early Childhood Education and Arts-based learning, as well as experience teaching students with special needs.  When I’m not in the classroom, I can be found teaching Yoga, Dance and Art to children and adults in studios around town. As our new classroom begins to take shape over the next few weeks, I’ll be painting some murals in the PreK 3 classrooms to make the space an even more beautiful place to be!

By this time you should have received a First Days of School letter that provides information about the staggered entry dates for the beginning of the academic year.  I will have a chance to meet the students and parents/care givers on September 15th and 16 th. We will meet again more formally at the Back to School Night.  In the meantime, I am happy to answer any questions that you have via email: npouliot@saintstephenschool.org.

A few reminders:

PreK 3 students must be potty-trained by the start of the school year. The school’s policy does not allow for teachers to change students. In the case of an accident, the child is taken to the restroom under the supervision of a teacher and verbally instructed on cleaning himself/herself up and changing his/her clothes. If the child has more than a few accidents over the course of the school year, then the family will be asked to keep the child at home until the potty training process has been completed.

PreK 3 students will need to arrive at school each day with an individual healthy snack to be eaten that day during snack time. Snacks could consist of items such as granola bars, apples, crackers, cheese sticks, etc. Please send snacks daily in a container labeled with your child’s name.

We are very fortunate to have brand new furniture and materials in our classroom this year! There are, however, some items that we do ask families to provide:

Supply List

Washable Markers
Tissue Boxes
Paper Towel Rolls
Wet Wipes

(We go through a lot of wet wipes in PreK! Diaper wipe-style wipes are great)

Hand Sanitizer

(Our preference would be a natural, alcohol-free brand such as Clean Well that can be found at Whole Foods)

These items will be used collectively in the classroom and do not need to be labeled.

Please also send one full change of clothes (underwear and socks too) for your child that will be kept at school all year.

I am so looking forward to meeting the PreK 3 students and families and beginning the year together. This will be a school year of learning discoveries, new friendships, outdoor play, songs and dances, science experiments, artistic adventures and character development. We will begin to read and write, grow leaps and bounds in our math and counting abilities, practice Yoga poses named after our favorite animals and learn how to share in being a kind member of a community. This year will be great!

Best wishes for a beautiful end to your summer.

Sincerely,

Nicole Pouliot
