Eiffel Tower Competition 2009 CONGRATULATIONS! Connor Ausman, a 5th grader at St. Stephen, is a winner in a competition held by the French Embassy in NYC. In October 2009, the French Embassy in NYC held a competition celebrating the 120th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower. This competition was open to students grades K-12 in all schools in New York State, New Jersey, and Connecticut. This year there were over 800 entries in this competition. To participate in the competition, students were invited to write poems, speeches, odes, movie scenes, songs, make videos, or create sculptures, paintings, or sketches of the Eiffel Tower. St. Stephen entered students from grades K-8. Connor wrote a poem honoring the Eiffel Tower and was one of 50 finalists chosen to attend an awards ceremony at the French Embassy in NYC on Friday November 13th. Among these 50 finalists, 6 won a scholarship of $250, 5 won a scholarship of $500, and 1 won the grand prize (a trip to Paris for two). Connor was a winner of the $250 scholarship.
